Fresh New Music : Bruce Springsteen
A new Bruce Springsteen album is always highly anticipated, and the newest, his 18th studio album is no exception.

“High Hopes” features, along with the E-Street Band, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, and was recorded in New Jersey, Atlanta, Australia and New York City..
Morello sat in for Steve Van Zandt  in March of 2013, and appears on several songs that Springsteen calls “ some of our best unreleased material from the past decade”.

High Hopes opens the album.

Fresh New Music : BlitzenTrapper
Blitzen Trapper is a rootsy, folkie band out of Portland.
Their debut album came out in 2003, with a taste of success in the years that followed. In 2008, their FURR album was #13 on Rolling Stone’s Best Albums of 2008. They also received rave reviews from publications like Spin and Pitchfork, which led to festivals, TV shows and endless touring.

The newest release, VII ( in Roman  numerals) includes this catchy song “ Thirsty Man”.

Fresh New Music : Kodaline
Lots of great music has come out of Ireland. Add Kodaline to the list!
Originally called 21 Demands, the band made chart history in March 2007, when their debut single "Give Me A Minute" topped the Irish Singles Chart; becoming the first independently released track to do so!
The band changed their name to Kodaline in 2011, with their debut ep released one year later, and it looks like these 20-somethings have a great future as the BBC nominated them for The Sound of 2013 poll .

The band comes to Chicago and Minneapolis in March. Here’s their first single  off the new album, called “ Love Like This”.

Fresh New Music : The Olms
You might not have heard of The Olms, but you probably remember Pete Yorn who has  teamed up with JD King to form The Olms back in 2011 with their first album released this past June.

The pair had known each other for years before they formed this project, getting together often to talk music.
The duo play all the instruments on the album, with songs compared to The Kinks, Grateful Dead and this David Crosby-esque song, “ Someone Elses Girl”

LORDE covers Tears for Fears
The new pop superstar from New Zealand, 16-year old Lorde, has a song on the soundtrack to the new Hunger Games movie that's coming out in a couple of weeks.

Her cover of the Tears for Fears song "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is definitely a departure from her hit, "Royals." It's much more ominous and foreboding than the original.

What do you think?

Fresh New Music : The Musgraves
One band I predict you will be hearing more from is British band, The Musgraves.

Their popularity began in 2011 when they released a 4 song ep, “Lost in Familiarity” which led to their music being heard on ads on British television. In 2012, they were to perform on Graham Norton’s show, but all their gear was stolen from a rental van they were using.

Fortunately, they didn’t let that stop them and their full length album was released in Britain to rave reviews.

Now America will discover why the Brits love The Musgraves.

Here is their new single “Fortune Teller”

The Musgraves album “You That Way, I This Way” is available now.

You might not know the name Brian Burton, but I’m sure you’ve heard of Danger Mouse. Well, they are one and the same.

He teamed up with James Mercer of The Shins back in 2010 and recorded under the name Broken Bells. They had a bit of success, reaching into the top on the charts with their self-titled debut album, which was nominated a Grammy  for Best Alternate Album  in  2011.

They are getting ready to release a new album in the new year, but have leaked this new single, “Holding on for Life”

World's Worst iPod: Exile "Kiss You All Over"
Kitty thought this song was an example of country disco and was not a fan...but just about everybody else was. "Kiss You All Over" was #1 for four weeks in 1978, and was probably one of the year's best songs. Exile rocks out with the song here...

The next Jonny Lang? Quinn Sullivan is the real deal
I was up in Wausau for the Big Bull Falls Blues Fest, and had a great time watching all the great live music. The big surprise of the day was the guy who played at 3pm. He's just 15 years old and is a good friend of Buddy Guy, and even got to play...

World's Worst iPod: Young MC "Bust a Move"
Kitty apppeared to be all alone on her dislike of this song, which made it to #7 on the charts in 1989. Rolling Stone described the song this way: "a G-rated funk-bomb integral to hip-hop's eventual mainstream acceptance." The G-rating probably...

World's Worst iPod: Hall & Oates "Method of Modern Love"
Hall & Oates had a lot of great hits in the 1970s and 1980s, and if you believe a lot of folks, this is NOT one of them! This song with its amazing spelling lesson hook made it all the way to #5 on the charts in February of 1985. We're a...
