Daft Punk

This week’s Gabby’s Pick is  Daft Punk’s “ Get Lucky”.

If you’re not familiar with them, Daft Punk is a French duo who made their initial impact in the late 90’s “ house movement” in France.

They toured throughout 2006 and 2007 and released the live album Alive 2007, which won a Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album. The duo composed the score of the film Tron: Legacy and in 2010 released the soundtrack album of the film. In January 2013, Daft Punk released their latest album Random Access Memories on 17 May 2013.

New song from John Mayer
If you believe the hashtag, #johnmayerisback!

His first tour since his vocal cord troubles cleared up kicks off on the 4th of July, and includes a stop at Milwaukee's Summerfest on July 6th.

In addition to preparing for a tour, he's been finishing up work on a new album called Paradise Valley, and just released the first single.

It's called Paper Doll, and the scuttlebutt is that it's about his old girlfriend Taylor Swift.

For some odd reason, Mayer decided to release the song with this disturbing Prancercise lady as the visual. Maybe you should try to listen to the song without watching. Just a suggestion.

It does have some nice guitar work and a melody that just floats along..but I would prefer him to be a little bit more feisty.

Gabby's Pick : Lorde

This week’s Gabby’s pick is a very catchy pop song from a young girl from New Zealand named Ella Yelich-O'Connor.  She’s 16 years old and goes by the name Lorde because of her love of all things Royal.

Her first ep was released last year  went 2X’s platinum and reached number 1 on the New Zealand charts.

We predict big things for Lorde.

Jake Bugg

This week’s “Gabby’s Pick” is “Lightning Bolt” by Jake Bugg. Jake is all of 19 years old and has already been nominated for “British Breakthrough Act,” “Best New Artist” and “ Best Album”

He started playing the guitar at 12 years old, and says that his formative musical moment was hearing Don McLean’s "Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)" on an episode of The Simpsons.

What makes Jake’s music stand out is his fusing contemporary rock riffs with retro-folk, giving him a sound that’s uniquely his own. His self-titled debut album came out late last year and has already gone platinum in the UK.

Check out  the video for Lightning Bug"

The problem with holiday sweaters--and it's not that they're ugly
Holiday sweaters--oh we love to mock them! Ugly holiday sweater parties have become so mainstream that I feel they are no longer ironic. But that's not what I'm going to gripe about. My problem is that ugly holiday sweaters are now becoming...

World's Worst iPod: Carl Douglas "Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting"
It's hard to believe a novelty song like this went all the way up the charts to number one---but it did, and actually stayed there for two weeks! It seemed most everyone, excluding our meteorologist Brian Olson wanted to hear this song, which came...

Jeff the Promo Guy's Top 2014 Picks
2014 had a ton of great new album releases, and I easily came up with more than 10 to reference. I would have loved to include The Fray, Angus & Julia Stone, Bleachers, Alt-J, and George Ezra… but they just didn't make it on my Top 10 list. Here...
