Singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist John Dufilho, formerly in the bands, “The Deathray Davies” and “The Apples in Stereo” is set to release his own album April 10th. For his newest project, he wrote 14 songs, which feature many guest performances from other Indie artists in each track. These artists include Robert Schneider, band mate from “The Apples in Stereo”, Will Johnson, from “Centro-Matic”, Rhett Miller, from “Old 97’s”, John Davis, from “Superdrag”, and my personal favorite, Ben Kweller.
The band, “Tripwire” has said, “How in the hell Dufilho continues to come up with such consistently catchy melodies boggles the mind. Musical Genius? Definitely.”
Dufilho has previously made his own album before and has described his work by saying, “I wanted to make a more personal record. Something intimate like a bedroom four track demo, but with the fidelity that comes with working in a real studio.” His music is indie, rock, pop, and personal. With adding such talents as Sarah Jaffe, Chris Walla, and Ben Kweller, just to name a few, I can only imagine how much talent this album will hold!
Grace Potter & The Nocturnals won't be releasing their fourth studio album The Lion The Beast The Beat until June 12th, but they're giving us a taste of the new record with "Never Go Back." The lead single, which was just released today and is streaming for your listening pleasure right here, was co-written and produced by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach. "Never Go Back" delivers what you'd expect from this awesome collaboration -- a sultry, bluesy rock 'n roll song.
The band is currently on tour -- lead singer Grace Potter is well known for her alluring, seductive stage presence at live shows. See for yourself when Grace Potter & The Nocturnals perform live at the Majestic Theatre on April 28th!
It's been five years since The Shins have given us a new album. Back when Wincing The Night Away was released in '07, lead singer James Mercer and crew were coasting on a wave of indie adoration; they amassed legions of new fans after having their song "New Slang" prominently featured in the 2004 film Garden State (remember? that innocent, pre-Black Swan Natalie Portman proclaiming "You gotta hear this one song, it'll change your life I swear" to Zach Braff?). James Mercer took a detour with his side project Broken Bells for awhile, but indie rock lovers can breathe a sigh of relief as The Shins return with their fourth studio album, Port of Morrow, which was released today.
Eager to hear the new album? Have a fear of committment? Go ahead, stream Port of Morrow in its entirety here, including their first single "Simple Song." Also, for kicks and giggles, check out this clip from the TV show Portlandia featuring singer James Mercer, The Decemberists' Colin Meloy, and Sleater-Kinney's Corin Tucker as the fictional band "Echo Echo."
Brandi Carlile will be releasing a new album on June 5th titled Bear Creek. Her fourth studio album, Bear Creek was named for Bear Creek Studios, a converted barn studio near Seattle where the album was recorded. The first single, a piano-driven track called "That Wasn't Me," will hit radio in April. Get a sneak peak of the song below. Brandi will also be serving as the opener for a leg of this summer's Dave Matthews Band tour. You can catch them both when they perform live at Alpine Valley on July 6th & 7th.

Bad news for John Mayer fans (and John Mayer). The Grammy-winning guitarist has canceled his upcoming 18-date tour and announced an indefinite hiatus. No, it's not so he can spend time romancing Hollywood starlets - unfortunately, the granuloma that had formed on Mayer's throat last year has returned, and he'll need to rest his vocal cords in order to heal. Mayer made the announcement via his blog, stating, "Nothing feels worse than having to break the stage down before the performance...I love this band you were going to hear." The tour would've been Mayer's first in two years, and would've coincided well with the upcoming release of his new record,Born and Raised, which will be out May 22nd. You can download the first single from Born and Raised, "Shadow Days," on iTunes now. Get well soon, Johnny boy!
Radiohead fans, get excited. Thom Yorke & Co have announced fresh tour dates, bringing the band closer to the Great Lakes. Don't have tickets to see them at Coachella? Now you don't have to. They'll be performing in Chicago (Tinley Park @ First Midwest Bank Ampitheatre) on June 10th, following a performance at Bonnaroo just a few days before. Their 2012 world tour kicked off in Miami on February 27th and lasts until November, ending in Australia. For a full list of Radiohead's tour dates, visit their website here.
Curious about what songs you might hear from Radiohead on this tour? Here's the setlist from their recent visit to Austin City Limits. I spy a new song (“Identikit”)…

A song by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach and British soul musician Michael Kiwanuka has been posted online. The track titled Lasan, will be the B-side to Kiwanuka's new single I'm Getting Ready. March 12th is the release date of Michael Kiwanuka's debut album. Some are already comparing him to Otis Redding and Van Morrison.
On their collaboration Auerbach said, "It was great – really quick. We went and did it really quick at Ray Davies' studio. It was nice. Obviously his voice is amazing and the songs are cool. The production on that stuff is great too – I like what the guy is doing."
Check out Lasan below. It's one of the best things I've heard all week.
