Legendary singer-songwriter and guitarist Mark Knopfler will hit the road for a North American tour in support of his current solo album, Get Lucky, this spring. The tour â during which Knopfler will also dip into his illustrious back catalog â begins April 8th in Seattle and criss-crosses the continent before finishing up in Albany, NY, on May 9th.
Released on September 15th, 2009, Get Lucky is the Dire Straitsâ lead singer and songwriterâs sixth studio album and follow-up to 2007âs highly successful Kill To Get Crimson, which Rolling Stone heralded as âa gemâ and USA Today described as âyet another unpretentious showcase for his unmistakable gifts as a musician, tunesmith and storyteller.â
In its four-star âinstant classicâ review, USA Today called Get Lucky âa beauty, full of ripe, haunting melodies and gently vital, folky arrangements that showcase his robust and lyrical guitar work,â while the New York Times noted that it âradiates wariness and maturity as well as poise.â
The album was recorded at Knopflerâs award-winning British Grove Studios in West London, and co-produced with longtime collaborators, engineer Chuck Ainlay and keyboardist Guy Fletcher. It also features Richard Bennett, Danny Cummings, John McCusker, Matt Rollings, and Glenn Worf.
A multiple Grammy award winner for work with Dire Straits, Knopfler combined his wry lyrics with his guitar prowess to create such major hits as âMoney For Nothing,â âSultans Of Swing,â âRomeo and Julietâ and âWalk of Life.â He has produced records for Bob Dylan and Randy Newman as well as scoring several films including Cal, Local Hero, Princess Bride and A Shot at Glory.
