FREE MP3: Foster The People/Kimbra - Warrior

Warrior art

This week's free download is a musical union that we'll refer to as Foster The Kimbra. Foster The People, the masterminds behind last summer's monster hit "Pumped Up Kicks" got together with A-Trak and Kimbra (the female voice in that "Somebody That I Used To Know" track that you might've heard of...) to create a song for Converse's "3 Artists 1 Song" collaborative series. The result is what you'd expect - an incredibly catchy song for the new age of pop. "Warrior" is the soundtrack of an old school arcade game, and I've reached the  final level. Somehow, somewhere, Foster The People discovered a cave full of pop hooks, and they're mining it for us to enjoy. Don't disregard Kimbra here, either -- when she's not lending her voice to massive hit songs, she's making music on her own. Try out her song "Settle Down" right here, then check out the video for "Warrior" and download the song for free here.

World's Worst iPod: Torn Between Two Lovers by Mary MacGregor
Today's song was written by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary. It was inspired by the 1957 novel Doctor Zhivago. No one was inspired by the song this morning. It was rejected by almost all the listeners.
Kitty used to be a Goth--almost
Today is World Goth Day, a day to celebrate the post-punk, anti-establishment, dark clothes-wearing subculture. I'm pretty sure I was a Goth for at least for little while, for two reasons. 1) I almost hardly ever wear pastels. 2) I used to...

World's Worst iPod: Funky Cold Medina by Tone Loc
This morning it seemed like just about everyone was in the mood for some Funky Cold Medina...except Kitty. This ridiculous song made it all the way to number 3 in 1989. Jonathan says any song that references advertising dogs from the 80's has got...

World's Worst iPod: It's a Miracle by Barry Manilow
It's a miracle that both Jonathan and KItty wanted to hear Barry Manilow this morning. They were not alone. Plenty of Fanilow's called in to vote yes. One caller claimed to have seen Manilow in concert 25 times!
