The 8 at 8

Each weekday at 8am, Jonathan & Kitty present the 8 at 8. The 8 at 8 is a collection of eight songs, with a combined theme, meaning or unifying idea.

With two minds like Jonathan & Kitty, the song combinations are infinite.  They might be ridiculous too, but it's a infinite ridiculousness, just like Jonathan & Kitty.

Eight at Eight for October 21, 2013: Bands Names That You Think Are Real Names

A lot of bands are named after someone in the band, but not always.  Here are eight great songs from bands with names that have nothing to do with anyone in the band.

Kiss This Thing Goodbye by Del Amitri.  No Del in this band.  The guys say the name was originally created to confuse people.

Bungle in the Jungle by Jethro Tull.  Tull was a real person who was an agriculturist.  He invented the seed drill in 1701.

Layla by Derek & the Dominos  No Derek in the band, but there was an Eric.

Calgary by Bon Iver.  Bon Iver is a french greeting used in the show Northern Exposure. It means good winter.  Bon Iver is Wisconsin native Justin Vernon.

867-5309 by Tommy Tutone.  There is a Tommy in the band, but his last name is not Tutone.

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd.  The band's name comes from two old blues musicians Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.

1957 by Milo Greene.  There's no Milo, but band members originally pretended that it was the name of their manager.

Let Her Cry by Hootie and the Blowfish.  No Hootie.  The lead singer is Darius.

World's Worst iPod:Jay Ferguson "Thunder Island"
The late 1970s weren't necessarily a great time for music, but there were a few gems. This song may or may not have been one of them. We got a lot of love for Jay Ferguson's "Thunder Island" which was a hit in early 1978. It made it up to...
