Fiona Apple has a new album out, and some critics are marveling at the wordiness of the title. And I admit, it is a little long. It's called : The Idler Wheel Is Wiser than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More than Ropes Will Ever Do.
Yes, that's a long title, but downright brief compared to this one that came out in 1999: When the Pawn Hits the Conflicts He Thinks Like a King What He Knows Throws the Blows When He Goes to the Fight and He'll Win the Whole Thing 'Fore He Enters the Ring There's No Body to Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might So When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand and Remember That Depth Is the Greatest of Heights and If You Know Where You Stand, Then You Know Where to Land and If You Fall It Won't Matter, Cuz You'll Know That You're Right .
Didn't any one ever teach Ms. Apple about editing? Or perhaps those were the edited versions! To her credit, at the time the 1999 album came out, it held the world record for the longest album title ever. Fiona may have considered going for a longer album title this time around, but would have had to break a record set later by Chumbawamba.
The critics are giving The Idler Wheel very positive reviews. Rolling Stone says it's "rawboned emotionally," and "more hard- hitting musically," giving it 3.5 stars. Entertainment Weekly gave it an A, and England's NME says it's "endlessly fascinating."
