It might appear Eric Clapton is displaying a self-deprecating sense of humor with his new album that's coming out March 12th.
The album, which includes two new songs written by Clapton and lots of old standards, is called "Old Sock."
Now according to an Eric Clapton fan site, he got the title from David Bowie. Earlier this year, Clapton contacted Bowie to let him know that he liked his new song, "Where Are We Now." In response, Bowie said something like, "Thanks, you old sock," which Clapton thought would make a great title for his new album.
So there you have it!
The album has a little bit of everthing--some reggae, some blues (a cover of Gary Moore's "Still Got the Blues), and even some old standards ("All of Me," "Goodnight Irene", and "Our Love is Here to Stay.")
Some other "old socks" appear on the album too--including Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, and JJ Cale.
