Dave Mason's Feelin' Alright

Happy Birthday Dave Mason! He turns 65 today...and has had a helluva career. I'll admit that I first heard of Dave Mason when I was a teenager and heard "We Just Disagree." So that means I missed all of Traffic, some pretty cool solo albums and some other alliances completely! Luckily it is possible to go back in time and catch up on what you missed. Here's a brief Dave Mason timeline: Mason joined Traffic, quit Traffic, joined again and the band broke up. Somewhere around the same time, he was hanging with Jimi Hendrix, and introduced him to this cool new Dylan song, "All Along the Watchtower." Hendrix dug it, so they recorded it that night with Mason playing acoustic guitar. Right around 1970, Mason gets a call from his friend Eric Clapton, and tours with him and Delaney and Bonnie and Friends. He's supposed to be the guitar player for Derek and the Dominoes, but he passes and lets Duane Allman create some pretty serious musical magic. Mason makes some solo albums..and in the late 1970's releases a single which becomes a hit ("We Just Disagree") and we're back where I started. Fast forward more than 30 years, and I get to meet Dave Mason at a Best Buy store in Madison, where he's doing a little gig to promote a new record. I give him a hard time because he was supposed to come visit us at Triple M and play for us in Studio M, but there was a scheduling conflict. He signs my copy of "It's Like You Never Left" and Mike's copy of "Alone Together." Anyway, here's a song that Dave Mason wrote when he was just a teenager. It only has two chords. You might recognize a few of the other folks up there with him.

Kitty: I am a Dave Mason fan, and have followed him since his early Traffic days! His first solo album is my favorite, but I enjoy most of his music. I was finally able to see him recently, and was not disappointed - Good post!
