Climb Every Mountain or At Least One

mthoodI've never been a big camper, but I'm always willing to try new things.  I couldn't resist when Lindsay invited me to take part in the Mt. Hood Scramble in Portland this weekend. Perhaps I should have gotten a little more information before I agreed to take part, but as the Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose once said: "It's too late to turn back now." So here's the rundown of the event.  We'll be heading out to Mt. Hood (which I've yet to see because it's been overcast every time I visit) and we'll camp with about 150 of our closest friends.  The next morning we'll get up and run six miles.  No, there is NOT a nicely groomed track hidden within Mt. Hood.  We'll be running over rocks, under fallen trees and through streams.  Here's the description from the Mt. Hood Scramble website: This event isn't designed for the pansy-ass front avenue runner -- DO NOT expect some cutesy lil' downtown 5k, or some wussy boy trail-run.  This mother is packed with adventure: hills, creeks, rock, dirt, heavy brush and more.  Wear clothes you don't mind ruining, and bring band-aids if you are concerned about some bleeding. As for aid stations... there is plenty of water on the course, but I'd think twice about drinking it... especially after you waded through it.  As for the distance, well it’s about 6-miles or whatever "K".  We'll time you, give you awards, probably some watermelon, and hell, we may even throw a few beers -- all you have to do is finish.  Think you’re up for it?  We are ready for you, and to quote Shakespeare’s Henry V, "he who shed his blood with me, shall be my brother" See you on the hill. Yikes!  I think it will be fun even  though I usually start most races in the pansy-ass section.  There will even be an added twist. The team I'm running with will all be wearing tutus.  Yes, tutus.  I requested a Badger Red tutu (as if that would some how make me more manly). We'll see what happens.  I'll be sure to bring back plenty of pictures.

Eric Clapton definitely has retirement in mind. He hinted to Rolling Stone recently that he may quit touring and recording, and only play for family and friends. We can look forward to at least one more new Clapton record before he hangs up his Strat...

Mayflies: faschinating, or horrifying? You decide.
The mayflies were out in full force over the past couple days. Now I've heard about these insects over the years, but have never experienced a mayfly swarm. I think I'm pretty happy about that. Apparently the mayflies were so thick they...

If you were listening to Triple M on the morning of Thursday July 17th, you may have thought somehow we slipped back to 1965. But it wasn't an old song we were playing--it was a brand new one from the Los Angeles band the Bayonets, called "Crash...
