Does your family have special foods that they only eat at Christmas?
When I was young, we had a lot of food traditions that went along with the holiday. Some good, some not so good, if you ask me. (And since you clicked on this, you kinda did).
On Christmas Eve, we always had oyster stew. I still get a little bit of a gagging reflex in the back of my mouth when I think of oysters..although I've been assured by many people over the years that they're delicious. When oysters got too expensive, we'd use fewer oysters and throw in some other kind of fish (Poor-man's lobster, whatever that is). I didn't mind that, and my mom didn't mind that I put all the oysters in her bowl. (This required a strategic seating arrangement.)
My mom made a delicious baked item that I loved..even though it may sound nasty to you. They were called "prunies" and they were sort of like punchkas (not sure how to spell it). They were little sweet yeast dough roll-ups with prunes inside! And I actually liked them! I haven't had them for years..I think it would bring a tear to my eye if I could have some now because they remind me so much of my mom.
There were a lot of purchased sweets that we'd only have at that time of the year--including angel food candy. It was chocolate coated spongey stuff that some people call fairy food. I loved that stuff. Although it'll make your stomach hurt if you eat too much. Trust me, I know.
We also had a big plate of peanut brittle (nothing wrong with that), and a bowl of nuts still in the shell. Now that's too much work if you ask me..but it is a chance to bring out the fancy schmancy nutcrackers.

Today is World Goth Day, a day to celebrate the post-punk, anti-establishment, dark clothes-wearing subculture.
I'm pretty sure I was a Goth for at least for little while, for two reasons.
1) I almost hardly ever wear pastels.
