A year and a half after the surprising and tragic death of music icon Michael Jackson, a new album from the king of pop is about to be released. MICHAEL is set to be released December 14th on Epic records. As the official press release describes it:
"The creative process never stopped for the King of Pop who was always planning for his next album; unbeknownst to many fans around the world Michael Jackson was writing and recording songs continuously everywhere from a friend’s home in New Jersey to studios in Las Vegas and Los Angeles with a small group of handpicked collaborators. Now, through the unique stories that will be told about the songs that comprise MICHAEL, fans will get mind-blowing insight into how this artist worked and a chance to hear the songs he most recently created along with tracks that Michael had a desire to bring to fruition."
One of the tracks from the album, Breaking News, is currently up on Michael Jackson's official website. There is already a cloud of controversy surrounding the song. Many people, including MJ's family, are accusing the vocals of being fake. Judging by the almost 300 comments on his website since the song was posted, fans seem split. A lot of them support the song 100% while others admit to disappointment.
I don't know about you but I think this is just further exploitation of the memory of a great performer. The people in charge of his creativity and legacy seem more concerned with making a quick buck (or a million) than honoring Michael the way he deserves. I honestly don't believe that's Michael's voice and even if it is I don't think the well known perfectionist would have wanted his work released this way. Hopefully this isn't it.
