Ben Harper's unlikely collaborator

Ben Harper is known for his laid back, mellow surfer dude kinda music, with songs like "Bubble Toes" and "Diamonds On the Inside," but he's got a little blues man in him as well, as evidenced by his new album.

Harper teams up with legendary blues harmonica player Charlie Musselwhite for an album of all original blues tunes, called "Get Up" which is available now.

It turns out this collaboration has been in the works for a while--try a dozen years! That's when Harper and Musselwhite worked with another legendary bluesman, John Lee Hooker, who sensed some chemistry between the two and suggested they do some more stuff together. Since Hooker's been gone since 2001, that had to be some time ago.

Harper and Musselwhite fit together well despite the generational difference. It seems the blues has no age requirement.
Preview the album here.

Whoa whoa whoa!
"Bubble Toes" is a Jack Johnson song! Plus, I wouldn't call Ben Harper laid back surfer music, personally. He's a lot more of a hard rock/roots rock guy, based on most of his albums. The Musselwhite collab's not too out of the ordinary since he did a whole record with The Blind Boys of Alabama, too.
