Savin' Time

I'm all about saving some time.  Anything that will give me an extra few minutes to sleep in.  I'm all for it.

Here's some good time savers for today, all food related.

The Old Man Is Snoring
Nothing worse that trying to get a good night's sleep when you hear somebody sawing logs. Nobody really admits they snore, but chances are, you have at some point in your life.

For me, it's sleeping on my back that will get me making nasal noise.  That was up until I got the right bed that allowed me to sleep comfortably on my side.

There was a new study on kids and sleep, more specifically: snoring.

Previous research has shown that poor sleep quality in children, including snoring, is linked to hyperactivity. However, little is known about "how much" snoring is too much, and whether the behavioral effects last over time. The results showed that the persistent snorers had significantly worse overall behavior.

Hear that kids.  Now, you can blame the dog for eating your homework AND your snoring for not doing it!

The World Loves A Smile
Feeling stressed? Try forcing a smile.  Sounds kinda weird, but a new study finds that it could actually help you relax.

This already sounds like crazy science but, here we go.

Researchers, using chopsticks, manipulated the faces of 169 participants into either a neutral expression, a standard smile (only affects muscles around the mouth), or a Duchenne smile (the effect spreads to the eyes, and thus looks more genuine).

Participants—some of whom were specifically told to smile—then completed a number of stressful activities while continuing to hold the chopsticks in their mouths.

Monitoring heart rates and stress levels (as reported by the participants), researchers found that those with Duchenne smiles were the most relaxed during the experiment. Those who were told to smile also had lower heart rates than those who had neutral expressions, and even those whose standard smiles were formed by the chopsticks felt better than those who didn't smile.

OK.  That seems a bit overboard.  Maybe just try getting a good night's sleep and cracking a joke at the watercooler instead of the Chopstick torture routine!

New food of the week: Kale
Last week, I decided I would try one new, healthy food a week, and asked my facebook friends to make some suggestions. The first thing I tried was mango. I'm sure I've had other mango flavored things, and mango as part of something else, but...

World's Worst iPod: You Don't Bring Me Flowers
There's only one thing that might be worse than the Neil Diamond/Barbra Streisand duet "You Don't Bring Me Flowers." And that's Jonathan Suttin doing his best crooning...doing both parts. Most unpleasant. A lot of people liked this song...

Getting It Tight
Last weeks challenge we thought went excellent! Of course we are a little biased. The drinking song couldn't have been any better, or any less fun. We had a blast through out the whole process, and our performance rocked. This week is an easy...

World's Worst iPod: The Girl is Mine by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney
So the story goes Michael Jackson completed this song while watching cartoons with Paul McCartney. We'll just let that sink in for a moment. Not sure what cartoons they were watching, but it must have worked because this song made it to number 2...

Who said it? Dolly, or the Dalai Lama?
The Dalai Lama is back in town, sharing his message of peace and kindness with likeminded individuals, and the Wisconsin legislature. He also held a private meeting with Gov. Walker, who said he mostly listened to what His Holiness had to say (wise...

World's Worst iPod: Somethin' Stupid by Frank and Nancy Sinatra
This duet by Ol' Blue Eyes and his daughter went all the way to number 1 back in 1967. It seems a little creepy that Frank and Nancy Sinatra are singing a love song. However, a lot of Triple M listeners were in the mood for it. Here's...
