What does Kitty have to say?

Around Town for 1/30-2/1

Kitty's Top Three for the Weekend 1. The Iguanas at the Harmony Bar Friday night at 9:45pm. TIckets $15. Fun roots American Tex-Mex music from New Orleans! 2. Cash Box Kings w/Joel Paterson at the Crystal Corner Bar. Saturday night at 9:30. Old-style Chicago blues like you might have heard it back before the rest of the world caught on!  And a nicer group of musicians you are unlikely to meet! 3. Souper Bowl XIII. No football involved..it's a fundraiser for the UW's Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Your $15 contribution gets you some yummy soup, served in a bowl made by a local artist. Plus super (make that souper) cool bowls made by prominent potters will be up for silent auction. 3pm Saturday at Madison West High School. Freaky Band Name of the Week! The Parish Festival, with Fermata and Mulligan Stu. 10pm Friday at the Frequency. Now when I hear parish festival..I think the Cake Walk, polka music, and bingo. How about you?

The problem with holiday sweaters--and it's not that they're ugly
Holiday sweaters--oh we love to mock them! Ugly holiday sweater parties have become so mainstream that I feel they are no longer ironic. But that's not what I'm going to gripe about. My problem is that ugly holiday sweaters are now becoming...

Paolo Nutini - Caustic Love Paolo has been a friend of Triple M for years and his sound just keeps getting better and better. We've been playing "Let Me Down Easy" but one of my personal favorites is "Scream (Funk My Life Up) which has a pretty...

World's Worst iPod: Carl Douglas "Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting"
It's hard to believe a novelty song like this went all the way up the charts to number one---but it did, and actually stayed there for two weeks! It seemed most everyone, excluding our meteorologist Brian Olson wanted to hear this song, which came...

10. George Ezra: Wanted On Voyage This 21 year old sings, writes all his own songs and plays guitar bass and keyboards. And his music is beautiful, haunting and old beyond his years. In addition to the hit "Budapest", I loved the haunting "Did you...

Jeff the Promo Guy's Top 2014 Picks
2014 had a ton of great new album releases, and I easily came up with more than 10 to reference. I would have loved to include The Fray, Angus & Julia Stone, Bleachers, Alt-J, and George Ezra… but they just didn't make it on my Top 10 list. Here...
