Around Town: 3 Weekend Picks

...............................................................For the weekend of January 15, 2010 Bald Eagle Watching Day: This is a great time to see eagles flying and getting their fill of fish on the open waters of the Wisconsin River in Sauk County, and this Saturday there are bus tours, kids activities, exhibits and more.  Bus tours from 8am-1pm, but the event goes until 4. At Sauk Prairie High School. Madfest Juggling Festival: 6pm-midnight Friday, and 9:30-5pm Saturday at MATC Truax. Plus, and Extravaganza Variety Show Saturday night at the Wisconsin Union Theatre, and a "Renegade" show Saturday night at 10:30 at the High Noon Saloon. It's free, except for the Extravaganza--tickets for that are $10 in advance, $13 at the door. Gotta love this disclaimer from the website. For those wishing to juggle knives, chain saws, flaming kittens, or anything that might damage the expansive floors of our venue, space will be provided on Lake Mendota (notice we did not say near Lake Mendota). Inside there will be juggling, workshops, catching, demos, dropping, competitions, pickups, vendors, excuses, parties, apologies, a raffle, and relief from wind chill low enough to shrivel silicone. Tony Rocker and the Comeback Special: Elvis Tribute Saturday night at the East Side Club. Dinner at 6:30, Show at 7:45. For those of you who didn't get enough Elvis last weekend on what would have been his 75th birthday. Freaky Band Name of the Week: Bathtub Mothers, at the Main Street Pour House in Stoughton, 8pm Saturday. Sorry, but I just don't get this name. Acoustic blues, country, rock from Madison.

Specialists state that personal loans aid people to live the way they want, just because they are able to feel free to buy needed stuff. Furthermore, a lot of banks offer termloan for all people.

World's Worst iPod: Oliver "Jean"
The same guy who sang "Good Morning Starshine" had a number 2 hit with the song "Jean" in 1969. The song came from a movie called The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie about a headstrong teacher in a private school. The song really has nothing to do with any...

World's Worst iPod: LeBlanc & Carr "Falling"
LeBlanc and Carr were Lenny LeBlanc and Pete Carr, two Muscle Shoals studio musicians who hit the top 40 in 1978 with their hit "Falling." It made it up to #13 on the charts and was perfect for clumsy teenage slow dancing! Musically, these guys were...

Kitty's night in a haunted house
Before Friday, my only experience with a haunted house, commercial or otherwise, was at the Recreation Department in Stevens Point when I was a teenager, and as I remember I was FREAKED out. So I was a little nervous when Jonathan and I were asked to...

World's Worst iPod: El DeBarge "Who's Johnny"
A lot of people seemed to have fond memories of this questionable song from 1986. "Who's Johnny" was the first solo hit for the guy named El DeBarge, and it went to number 3 on the charts. Some of you might remember it from the movie "Short...

Finally, recognition of Stevie Ray Vaughan by the Rock Hall
The new list of nomines for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is out, and finally they give a nod to Stevie Ray Vaughan. The Rock Hall has passed Stevie by for the more than ten years that he's been eligible, causing me and other blues fans much...

You might want to see "Once" twice
I had the opportunity to go see "Once" at Overture Hall last night, and I guess the two word summary of my review could be "weirdly awesome." The story isn't too complicated, which is good because I sometimes had a hard time understanding the...

World's Worst iPod: Stonebolt "I Will Still Love You"
It seems Kitty was all alone in the Canadian wilderness with her love for the 1978 hit "I Will Still Love You" by Stonebolt. It only made it up to #29, so it seems a lot of folks didn't have the fond memories of the song that she did. With amazing...
