Check out the 2010 Project M champion Jimmie Linville, the vocalist/guitarist of the band Daniel and The Lion who are kicking off a Midwest tour at Java Cat Coffee located at 3918 Monona Drive. You can get a free download of their single "Hollywood" from Triple M when you sign up for their mailing list here. Their myspace page also has some of their music.
9/13 The Clyde Stubblefield Band

Funk
Join the funk with former James Brown drummer Clyde Stubblefie, most notably collaborating with "The Godfather of Soul" on the album Sex Machine and other hits. He will be grooving at The Frequency, located one block from the Capitol at 121 West Main Street. Clyde Stubblefiled plays every Monday night starting at 9:30pm and has been playing in Madison for over 20 years.
The Clyde Stubblefield Band is usually accompanied by keyboardist Steve "Doc" Scaggs and incredible vocalists Charlie Brooks and Karri Daley.

Join the sister duo Nina and Phanie Diaz with bassist Jenn Alva at the High End Saloon at 8PM for a fascinating show. Singer Nina has been likened to Morissey from the alternative rock band The Smiths, and the band's name "Girl in a Coma" is taken from a Smith's song. They also have an album out in October that will cover the Buffalo Springfield 1960's protest song "For What It's Worth." The High Noon Saloon is located east of the Capitol at 701A E. Washington Avenue. While you're there, you can also check out guests Hacienda, Sick of Sarah, and Little Red Wolf.

Punk Blues (with a live Burlesque show)
If you're into a night of B&B, blues and burlesque, this would be the most interesting live show of the week to check out. Think of this band as Moulin Rouge meets The White Stripes meets Reverand Horton Heat. This is a band based out of Vancouver and The Voodoo Dollz is the name of the live burlesque troupe that performs while Big John Bates plays. They will be playing at The Frequency at 9PM on September 14th.

Mark Olson, most notably of country band The Jayhawks, and Appleton native Cory Chisel are teaming up to provide a good ol' show at the High Noon Saloon at 7PM on Wednesday, September 15th. Olson recently released a solo album called "Many Colored Kite,' so you will be in for a night of interesting fresh music. You can download some of his songs here.

Hard Rock
A night of hard rock might be good for the soul. If you're in the mood to get your alternative metal on, you could run down to The Annex at 1206 Regent Street. This band released an album last year called "Mind Control" that was produced by Brett Hestla of "Creed."

Pop Rock
It's hard not to like the name of this band if you come from Madison and they provide some very interesting music as well. You should check out their hit song "My World (Sucks to be You)." And to top off the song, the music video features the great Lou Ferrigno and features the members playing tennis with guitars. You can check these guys out at the High Noon Saloon on Friday, September 17th at 9:30pm.

Alternative Country/Rock
Brandi Carlile's brand of music stretches across many genres from indie to rock to pop to country. She has an incredible voice and had her 3rd studio album "Give Up The Ghost" was released in October of 2009 and she has done some great cover work of Bryan Adams and The Beatles. She will be playing with Katie Herzig at the Barrymore Theatre at 2090 Atwood Ave on Saturday, September 18th at 8pm.

Alternative Rock/Punk
Gaslight Anthem will put on a great show and they have some new music with a third album "American Slang" that was released in June of this year. The band formed in New Jersey and they exude an east coast vibe that transcends the Jersey shore and mixes in a thicker western folk to their rich sound. They will be at the Majestic Theatre at 115 King Street on Sunday, September 19th at 7:30PM and are definitely worth checking out.
The Broadway musical Wicked has flown back into town, thrilling fans at the Overture Center now through June 9th.

Today is World Goth Day, a day to celebrate the post-punk, anti-establishment, dark clothes-wearing subculture.
I'm pretty sure I was a Goth for at least for little while, for two reasons.
1) I almost hardly ever wear pastels.
