Clyde Stubblefield IS the FUNKY DRUMMER! He drummed for James Brown from 1965 to 1970 and recorded such hits as “I Feel Good,” “Coldsweat,” and “The Funky Drummer.” Clyde is the most sampled drummer ever, providing some of the most famous and familiar grooves used by DJ’s and hip-hop artists around the world.

Madison alt-country songstress Whitney Mann has established herself as a smart songwriter with a crystalline voice on 2009's splendid The Way Back Home EP as well as a couple of dates opening for Willie Nelson earlier this year. Now she's out to prove her versatility with a monthly residency at Alchemy, where Mann will take requests via e-mail (byrequestwithwhitney@gmail.com). Mann prefers that the requests lean toward country, but she says she'll try anything.

Come check out this week's Free Summerjam at the Majestic with Clovis Mann which includes Project M's own Dan Walkner.  Clovis Mann is a local blues/rock band that will surely rock hard.  The CLOVIS MANN live experience has always been an intense musical commitment. The swirling styles and fire-breathing vocals continue to bend genres and explore new musical territories.

The Lucas Cates Band (TLCB) is a nationally touring, original acoustic rock group based in Madison, Wis. Their music includes a wide range of genres, including rock, pop, alt-country, folk, jazz, funk, r&b, jam and more. Fusing three- and occasionally four-part harmonies the band creates a big sound. They are a singer/songwriter group that has the energy of a rock band that jams, and with 10 Madison Area Music Awards (MAMAs) over the past 3 years--including best pop performer and artist of the year--TLCB has risen to new heights on a local, regional and national level.

Elf Lettuce is a blues/rock act originated in Madison, WI.  The band played with Clyde Stubblefield for some time and now are hard at work touring the midwest.  Elf Lettuce released an EP that has sold over 1000 copies and are prepping a live release for later this year.

Rock n' Roll
Cheap Trick may be one of the most covered bands of all time. Since the 70s they've been blending elements of pop, punk and even metal in a way that is instantly catchy and recognizable.  With timeless classics such as "I Want You to Want Me," "Surrender," and the late 80s lighter-waving favorite, "The Flame," Cheap Trick are a musical institution.

Local Jam Rock
The Yokanizu Project has been kicking around Madison and beyond for a good five years or more playing great rock, jam, and reggae.Baghdad Scuba Review is often lumped in with the "jam band" music genre. However they are truly defined as progressive rock, with elements of classic, jazz, and rock fusion. Long musical compositions and narratives are found in their music as the band explores the social and political awareness that is necessary in today's ever changing and unbalanced society.
