[Recommended] Matt Costa, High Noon Saloon,Oct. 26th

Matt Costa High Noon Saloon, Oct. 26th, 8pm, $17, Must be 18 years of age or older.  More info at trueendeavors.com A little bit about Matt: Matt Costa is a singer-songwriter born and raised in Huntington Beach, California.  While Matt always had a love for music, his original dream was to become a pro skateboarder.  But those dreams were shattered when he was 18 and hurt his knee.  During his rehabilitation, he rediscovered his love for music and began recording some demos.  One made its way to No Doubt guitarist Tom Dumont who offered to help produce Costa’s material.  After recording a few EPs his talents caught the attention of Jack Johnson who signed Costa to his Brushfire Records.  Ever since, Matt’s success has continued to grow.  With three full length albums under his belt and his songs featured in a number of movies and television shows, Costa is proving to be a remarkable musician and songwriter with a promise to do great things.  What does he sound like? It’s easy to hear Matt’s Californian roots in his songwriting.  His songs have a laid back and mellow feel.  There is a lot of beautiful acoustic guitar, whether upbeat or a little more melancholy.  While his early songs are more similar to Donavon Frankenreiter or his label owner Jack Johnson, his newest album is a little different.  Mobile Chateau was released just this past September and proves Matt is not afraid to branch out.  This album has a definite 60’s feel to it.  It’s a little more guitar heavy and boasts some psychedelic organ and backing influences to give it a completely retro feel. Some of his best songs: Sunshine Cold December Mr. Pitiful Witchcraft See the retro style video for Matt's new single Witchcraft.

Gotta love the '80s! Depending on who you're talking to, Kajagoogoo's "Too Shy" is either a song that defines the decade, in a good way, or it's a song that gives all other '80s songs a bad name. It made it to #5 on the charts in...

5 Things You Probably Didn't Know about Birthday Boy Neil Young
Happy 69th birthday to my favorite self-proclaimed "rich hippie," Neil Young. I remember when I was a kid, I hated Neil's voice. I didn't even particularly care for his songs CSNY albums, but the guy grew on me, and he's now one of my...

World's Worst iPod: Mac and Katie Kissoon "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep"
There was a lot of love this morning for a song that made it up to #20 in 1971 for the brother sister team of Mac and Katie Kissoon. The pair hailed from Trinidad and this was their only Top 40 hit.

World's Worst iPod: Robbie Nevil "C'est La Vie"
"That's just the way things go," croons Robbie Nevil in the soong "C'est La Vie." Despite the fact that the theme seemed to fit the way a lot of people feel today, there just wasn't enough to support playing it in its entirety. Released...
