[Recommended] Joshua Radin, The Barrymore Theater, Nov. 23rd, 7:30pm

Joshua Radin With special guests Good Old War and Kelley James, The Barrymore Theater, Nov. 23rd, 7:30pm, $22 The man behind the music: Joshua Radin started his music career after he moved to New York City.  It was here he first picked up a guitar and taught himself to play.  Then after being inspired by a bad break-up, Radin started writing his own music.  These songs would come to be his first album, We Were Here.  He first released this exclusively to iTunes for a month before it started attracting a lot of attention.  Actor Zach Braff loved the sound and picked one of the tracks to be featured on Scrubs.  Josh has since released two more albums on Mom and Pop records.  His sophomore album, Simple Tide, debuted at 34 on the Billboard 200 chart and reached number 1 on the iTunes charts.  Radin’s latest album was released early last month and debuted at number 5 on the iTunes album chart. What’s his style? Odds are if you watch television, you’ve heard a song by Joshua Radin.  He’s accumulated over 75 film and TV placements including shows like House, Bones, One Tree Hill, Grey’s Anatomy, Scrubs and Brothers and Sisters.  Radin’s first two albums are full of gentle whisper-like vocals backed with beautiful strings and acoustic guitars.  His lyrics tend to center on the pitfalls and wonders of romance and are either happily optimistic or pure melancholy.  Radin’s silver-bell voice matches perfectly with the tone of his music, enhancing the poignant themes and vulnerability of the songs.  Joshua branched out on his latest album however, dipping his toes into more of a rock sound.  Percussion, electric guitars and synthesizers all make an appearance creating a more pop/alt rock sound.  Josh’s vocals are also given some room to stretch on these tracks and it sounds just as good as his hushed version.  Best Songs One of Those Days I’d Rather Be With You    Road to Ride On Paperweight Take a look at Joshua's recently released video for his song Streetlight off his latest album The Rock and the Tide.

"Thank God I'm a Country Boy" John Denver: World's Worst iPod
There was just about universal love for this foot-stomper from John Denver. John Denver had hit after hit in the mid 1970s, and this was one of them, goign all the way to #1 in 1975. Go ahead, crank it up, sing it loud and proud. And maybe swing...

World's Worst iPod: Jump 'N The Saddle Band "The Curly Shuffle"
A silly novelty tune with a jump swing beat took the country by storm--at least parts of it--in early 1984.  A Chicago band called Jump 'N The Saddle scored a #15 with the Curly Shuffle...and it seems a lot of people have some pretty awesome...

Here's a song that inspired high-schoolers to act like 12-year-olds back in the late 1970's. The lyric "when you're in love with a beautiful woman, it's hard," was just so darn hilarious!! Dr. Hook had a lot of hits in the...
