[Recommended] Michael Franti, Overture Center, October 9th

Michael Franti will be appearing at the Overture Center thanks to www.trueendeavors.com Michael Franti is just an all around great guy.  He’s probably one of the most positive and socially aware artists out there.  Evidenced by the number of charities he’s a part of and the fact that he walks around barefoot because he wanted to see how it felt to be an impoverished child that cant afford shoes.  Not to mention the fact that he gives free concerts to people who can’t afford them.  “We play outside our shows for those who can’t afford to come inside. They need the songs too -- maybe more,” he explains.  His life and his music is all about empowering people to make their own lives, as well as the world better. Franti’s positive life outlook and concern with major social issues come across fully in his music.  People are enthusiastically responding to that message.  Franti’s newest album, Sound of Sunshine, is currently number 17 on Billboard’s top 200. Each song talks about how life is a blessing and we should be happy to be alive.  He wants us to love one another instead of materials and be better human beings.  His last (and most recognizable) single Say Hey (I Love You) was featured in numerous media outlets including the introduction to the film Valentine’s Day.  His blend of hip hop with reggae, funk and sometimes rock makes his music easily accessible and moving to all. My Favorite Tracks:
  • Light up Your Lighter
  • Sometimes
  • I’ll Be Waiting
Why Should You Check Him Out?
  • You will probably leave the theater feeling extremely happy and like you can change the world
  • Will be a relaxed, easy-going concert
  • Some good jam sessions
Check out Michael's website to stream his new album, Sound of Sunshine!

World's Worst iPod: Kajagoogoo "Too Shy"
Gotta love the '80s! Depending on who you're talking to, Kajagoogoo's "Too Shy" is either a song that defines the decade, in a good way, or it's a song that gives all other '80s songs a bad name. It made it to #5 on the charts in...

5 Things You Probably Didn't Know about Birthday Boy Neil Young
Happy 69th birthday to my favorite self-proclaimed "rich hippie," Neil Young. I remember when I was a kid, I hated Neil's voice. I didn't even particularly care for his songs CSNY albums, but the guy grew on me, and he's now one of my...

World's Worst iPod: Mac and Katie Kissoon "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep"
There was a lot of love this morning for a song that made it up to #20 in 1971 for the brother sister team of Mac and Katie Kissoon. The pair hailed from Trinidad and this was their only Top 40 hit.

World's Worst iPod: Robbie Nevil "C'est La Vie"
"That's just the way things go," croons Robbie Nevil in the soong "C'est La Vie." Despite the fact that the theme seemed to fit the way a lot of people feel today, there just wasn't enough to support playing it in its entirety. Released...
