Michael Franti is just an all around great guy. He’s probably one of the most positive and socially aware artists out there. Evidenced by the number of charities he’s a part of and the fact that he walks around barefoot because he wanted to see how it felt to be an impoverished child that cant afford shoes. Not to mention the fact that he gives free concerts to people who can’t afford them. “We play outside our shows for those who can’t afford to come inside. They need the songs too -- maybe more,” he explains. His life and his music is all about empowering people to make their own lives, as well as the world better.
Franti’s positive life outlook and concern with major social issues come across fully in his music. People are enthusiastically responding to that message. Franti’s newest album, Sound of Sunshine, is currently number 17 on Billboard’s top 200. Each song talks about how life is a blessing and we should be happy to be alive. He wants us to love one another instead of materials and be better human beings. His last (and most recognizable) single Say Hey (I Love You) was featured in numerous media outlets including the introduction to the film Valentine’s Day. His blend of hip hop with reggae, funk and sometimes rock makes his music easily accessible and moving to all.
