[Recommended] Eastern Conference Champions, Spetember 23rd, High Noon Saloon

If the people responsible for the Twilight movie have made any right decisions, it’s the bands they’ve decided to include on their soundtracks; among them is a trio named the Eastern Conference Champions.  Their song A Million Miles an Hour contributed to the Twilight franchise’s third film, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.  Its bouncy bass line and soaring guitars made it a perfect fit for the film.  The band behind that track is an eastern bred group made up of Joshua Ostrander, Greg Lyons and Melissa Dougherty.  Ostrander and Lyons had previously played together in a group called “Laguardia” but split ways to start a project of their own.  Dougherty was later added to contribute her fantastic guitar skills.  The band released their first LP Ameritown with Suretone records but soon wanted Independence from a major label.  Their next independently released EP Sante Fe was praised as their best work to date.  Eastern Conference Champions refers to themselves as a “one stop shop” in regards to their music.  They handle everything from recording to mixing to designing the artwork for their posters.  The group is currently loving their freedom and excited about the release of their newest album Speak-ahh. Eastern conference has a similar sound to A.A. Bondy or Spoon. They feature a lot of towering guitar with tricky finger work and soft singing.  They shine with their own take on a gritty blues sound.  Most of their tracks are a raw mix of folk and garage rock.  Ostrander adds a lot with his vocals.  He has an almost whiney twang reminiscent of the great Bob Dylan.  The likeness is probably why the people at Gossip Girl loved the band’s cover of Bob Dylan’s Don’t Think Twice Its All Right, which quickly became one of ECC’s most popular songs. Eastern Conference Champions also made a stop by Studio M for a live performance.  Check out the video! Make sure you come see Eastern Conference Champions perform TONIGHT! They will be at the High Noon Saloon.  See our Concerts page for more details! See you there! -Emily Cartwright

A Wicked good time!

World's Worst iPod: Torn Between Two Lovers by Mary MacGregor
Today's song was written by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary. It was inspired by the 1957 novel Doctor Zhivago. No one was inspired by the song this morning. It was rejected by almost all the listeners.
Kitty used to be a Goth--almost
Today is World Goth Day, a day to celebrate the post-punk, anti-establishment, dark clothes-wearing subculture. I'm pretty sure I was a Goth for at least for little while, for two reasons. 1) I almost hardly ever wear pastels. 2) I used to...
