Built to Spill has been around since 1992. That's 18 years for the mathematically inclined. (I checked by calculator.) So they have seen the test of time and have come back stronger with their new album There is No Enemy in 2009. Hailing from Boise, Idaho, Built to Spill is heavily influenced by a blend of pop and rock. Also a little blues. Lead singer, Doug Martsch mentions in an interview with Pitchfork he was heavily influenced by a wide range of people, from Jimi Hendrix to the driving guitar of Butthole Surfers to Modest Mouse.
One of my favorite songs from the new album is "Things Fall Apart." It is so poetic and beautifully simple and then launches into an incredible trumpet and guitar solo. This is a great album to just sit and relax to. Listen to this song and tell me it's not soothing:
