[Music News] Ozzy Osbourne Covers John Lennon for Amnesty

Ozzy has recorded his version of the song "How?" from John Lennon's 1971 "Imagine" album specially to salute John's 70th birthday. Osbourne rendition of this classic Lennon track from his 1971 'Imagine' album is available exclusively on iTunes with all proceeds benefiting Amnesty's human rights efforts around the globe. Download the Track Here and watch the video shot on location in New York City below. From popeater.com: The recording is an extension of 'Instant Karma,' Amnesty's 2007 album of Lennon compositions from artists including U2, R.E.M., Christina Aguilera, Green Day and more all in the name of relief efforts in Darfur. But with a major Lennon birthday on the horizon, there was more to celebrate. "This year the whole world is celebrating the 70th anniversary of John's birth," Yoko Ono tells Amnesty. "His spirit and influence is stronger than ever. John shared a common purpose with Amnesty International - shining a light on wrongs and campaigning to protect people's rights. We all shine on!" Amnesty's USA's Executive Director Larry Cox says of Osbourne's effort, "Once again Yoko Ono has shared the extraordinary legacy of her husband's music to make a difference in the lives of those who have no voice. We continue to be enormously grateful to her for her support and generosity. Yoko and John Lennon were devoted to seeking a better world and used the power of their artistry to work toward that goal. Ozzy Osbourne's gift, with Sharon Osbourne's strong and generous support, makes the same powerful statement today: that individuals can make a difference when they join with others who share a commitment to justice and freedom."

I'm sure there are some Lennon purists (I'm looking at you Kitty) who will hate this. I've always liked Ozzy- I'll admit that he's done some, shall we say...not-so-good stuff in recent years. I think he nailed this one though- he really made it his own, yet he still captures the spirit of the song and the spirit of John Lennon.

Pat--you're right! I thought I would hate it, but I like it too. It's very respectful to the original by Lennon, and the video of Ozzy walking thru NYC reminds me of similar ones with John and Yoko. Did any one else get reminded of Abbey Road when Ozzy walked across the street?

The problem with holiday sweaters--and it's not that they're ugly
Holiday sweaters--oh we love to mock them! Ugly holiday sweater parties have become so mainstream that I feel they are no longer ironic. But that's not what I'm going to gripe about. My problem is that ugly holiday sweaters are now becoming...

World's Worst iPod: Carl Douglas "Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting"
It's hard to believe a novelty song like this went all the way up the charts to number one---but it did, and actually stayed there for two weeks! It seemed most everyone, excluding our meteorologist Brian Olson wanted to hear this song, which came...

Rock Hall gets it right, honors Stevie Ray Vaughan

2014 had a ton of great new album releases, and I easily came up with more than 10 to reference. I would have loved to include The Fray, Angus & Julia Stone, Bleachers, Alt-J, and George Ezra… but they just didn't make it on my Top 10 list. Here...
