[Music News] New Santana, New Kings of Leon, McCartney Awarded, Cheap Trick to b

Santana Finalizing New Cover Album with Help From Talented Collaborators Legendary guitarist Carlos Santana is in the process of recording a new album with the help of a star-studded list of collaborators.  No specific information regarding a release date or album title have been released yet, but the format of the album will contain collaborative covers of classic rock songs.  Some collaborations include Santana with Joe Cocker covering Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," a cover of Led Zepplin's "Whole Lotta Love" which includes Chris Cornell, and rapper Nas helping to cover AC/DC's "Back in Black."  more info Kings of Leon Prep New "Fun" and "Beachy" Album Nashville rockers Kings of Leon are working on the follow up to their 2008 hit release "Only By Night."  In a recent interview, Kings of Leon member Nathan Followill described the sound of the new tracks as "beachy" and a return to their earlier work from the album Youth and Young Manhood.  The band is recording the album in New York, a first for the band, and has some summer dates scheduled in which they plan to play some new material.  Be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for new Kings of Leon work in the coming months.  more info McCartney Awarded Gershwin Prize, Sings With the First Family and Serenades Michelle As reported earlier, Paul McCartney was recently awarded the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song and a ceremony was held to honor Sir Paul this week.  Although the entire ceremony will air on PBS on July 28, some video of the ceremony is available now.  Of course the Obama family was present at the ceremony along with music and entertainment greats including Stevie Wonder, Dave Grohl, Jack White, Jerry Seinfeld and more.  From what can be seen, the ceremony included a sing-a-long to "Hey Jude" in which the entire first family joined McCartney and others on stage to sing and also Paul McCartney serenades the first lady Michelle Obama with the Beatles great "Michelle."  For more info and video follow this link. Cheap Trick Plans To Bring Sgt. Pepper's to Vegas Rockers Cheap Trick are planning on a Las Vegas show that centers around a live performance of the historically influential Beatles album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in its entirety.  The Beatles never performed the complex album in whole live, therefore Cheap Trick is teaming up with original Sgt. Pepper's audio engineer Geoff Emerick to perfect a live version of the album.  Developments to this project will surely trickle out over time.  more info John Mayer Cancels a String of Euro Dates John Mayer has been forced to cancel a handful of scheduled European dates due to an unspecified illness.  Sources report that Mayer suffered from dizziness and dehydration leading up to the cancelation of shows.  Mayer's North American tour is scheduled to start July 17 in North Carolina and no cancellations or delays are expected.  more info Vampire Weekend "Grilled" on the Colbert Report Indie rockers Vampire Weekend swung through Colbert Nation recently and Stephen had an opportunity to ask the band some important questions; including the exploitation and band-wagon-jumping of using the word "Vampire" in their band name and also stating that Stephen does in fact care about an oxford comma.  For video of the full interview and their performance of the song "Holiday" follow this link. Twilight "Eclipse" Soundtrack Released... Stacked In other vampire news... the tracklist of the soundtrack for the upcoming film The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has been released.  Although this should not be note worthy to me because I have not read the books, seen any of the movies, or know anything about the story, this soundtrack it noteworthy because of how stacked the tracklist is.  Artists including Metric, Muse, The Bravery, The Black Keys, The Dead Weather, Beck and Bats for Lashes, Vampire Weekend, Florence and the Machine, Band of Horses, Vampire Weekend, and even Cee-Lo Green are all included.  Why is it that a soundtrack as rich and loaded as this is for a teen vampire movie? more info -Sam Ryan
