[Concert Review] Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers, October 1st, The Majestic Theat

There was a lot of love at the majestic on Friday night for Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers.  A large part of that was from the guy that proposed to his girlfriend on stage!  The Sixers were cool enough to let the chap get down on one  knee in front of the whole crowd and after she of course said yes (who wouldn’t with a proposal like that?) the band serenaded them while they shared a romantic slow dance!  Major props to that man for putting together a great proposal and congratulations! The band did a hell of a job themselves.  These guys have a good sense of humor and it’s easy to see they don’t take themselves too seriously.  They are really phenomenal musicians as was demonstrated by Goose when he put his guitar fully behind his head and played like it was nothing.  It wasn’t just one or two chords, he was soloing it up behind his head…amazing.  The guys played a lot from their newest album including the title track The Bear, the feel good Shady Esperanto and the Young Hearts, and the heartfelt Satisfied Man. Highlights from the show:
  1. Stephen is a great story teller and he was in his element on Friday.  He had the crowd cheering in agreement about mean high school girls that work at Hollister and how you shouldn’t buy pants from there if you didn’t want a blow to your ego.
  2. The Sixers were a lot of fun and got the audience going when they did a sing along version of Start the Day Early.  Who doesn’t love to sing about moonshine?
  3. Stephen can play the harmonica like no one’s business.  I love when bands have a little bluesy jam session and he was rocking that harmonica.
Intrigued? Then make sure you check out: -The live album the Sixers released of their 1000th show together.  It’s completely uncut and includes 22 tracks recorded in none other than NYC!  The two disc set is available on iTunes. -The song Milwaukee! Any time a Wisco nod comes I will be happy to take it, even if it is just the title of a song. Thanks to majesticmadison.com for hosting the show!
