[Concert Review] Built to Spill, High Noon Saloon, Sept. 21

Built to Spill, Sept. 21 @ High Noon Saloon They came.  They rocked.  They left.  That is how I can sum up my experience with Built to Spill.  Now, they are an interesting band and have been around for a LONG time (since 1992).  Their lead singer, Doug Martsch, is an incredible vocalist and guitarist and it really shows that he has been doing this for a while and perfected everything along the way.  They sound EXACTLY like their recorded studio efforts.  It's incredible. Built to Spill played through some songs off their new album Their Is No Enemy that was released last October.  They also played some classics like "Untrustable/Part 2" from their 1997 album Perfect From Now On.  Highlights of the Concert:
  • I like High Noon Saloon.  It has a nice relaxed atmosphere...and they have bars on both sides of the room, which is nice
  • The band was incredible live.  They are amazing musicians who can PLAY!
  • Lead singer Doug Martsch has such a nice voice.
Critique of the Concert: Ok, it may seem nit-picky, but Martsch has no presence on stage.  I think he spoke like 5 times during the whole show to the crowd.  When he was finished with a song, he would just lean into the mic and offer a polite "Thanks," and then go to the next song.  I know, it's not a huge deal, but I like it when people at least acknowledge a location.  I think he's just a guy who likes to go out there and speak through his music, which is cool.  I guess it's better than having someone tell a long incoherent story that doesn't go anywhere.  (Que Miss South Carolina here). BUT...OVERALL Great concert.  I would highly recommend going to the High Noon Saloon because they have bands there all the time. Click here for their upcoming schedule.  And this band is incredibly good live Or you can check out one of their awesome songs that they played at the show: -Soren Nieminen

World's Worst iPod: Martika "Toy Soldiers"
For some reason, the song "Toy Soldiers" by Martika just made Jonathan & Kitty feel really, really old. The song was #1 for two weeks in 1989 for Martika, who started out in show business as a child actor. She had an uncredited role as an orphan in...

Who else still misses George?  George Harrison was born on today's date in 1943, and was only 58 when he died in 2001. I was interviewed by Channel 3 after he died, and I said it was truly sad for me, because I grew up with the Beatles and...
