On Sunday, Gaslight Anthem put on a raucous show at the Majestic. Amidst sticky feet, empty and flat bottles of PBR and the sinking admission that I didn't really know all of this band's range of music, I left the show thinking the Gaslight Anthem gave one hell of a fun performance. And to top it off, their intro song was "Bang a Gong" by T. Rex, and whether pre-planned or not, the whole band danced to the song as they come on stage, and an almost jactation of energy came across the crowd. It was sweet.
If you haven't heard of them before, you should check them out. Their new album American Slang was released in June and it's one that was prominently featured during the show. They opened up with the title from the album:
This band looks like a group that knows how to have a good time. They are originally from New York, and lead singer Brian Fallon made some funny pejorative jabs at the Indianapolis Colts (who were playing his beloved New York Giants). The band then played through a variety of their songs off their new album, including my favorites "The Queen of Lower Chelsea" and "We did it when we were Young."
Overall: Great concert. The band has a unique sound and everyone time I looked up, each one of them was smiling. Great sound overall. And the encore. Oh man, the encore was incredible. They did an amazing cover of Tom Petty's "American Girl" and the prolific "House of the Rising Sun."Worst part of the show: This was when the guy next to me decided it was time to open up a full can of PBR and start jumping up and down hurling the liquid everywhere, most of which seemed to gravitate towards my shirt. I stepped away from him when he opened up the second can.
Best part of the show: When I saw this guy getting literally tackled to the ground and dragged by a host of Majestic staff out of the building. It filled me with joy. Then I returned to the music. Great show!

Thank you so much for posting a review. I've looked all over for one. What a phemomenal show it was. And you have some great pics. Thank you very much.
Today's song was written by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary. It was inspired by the 1957 novel Doctor Zhivago. No one was inspired by the song this morning. It was rejected by almost all the listeners.
Today is World Goth Day, a day to celebrate the post-punk, anti-establishment, dark clothes-wearing subculture.
I'm pretty sure I was a Goth for at least for little while, for two reasons.
1) I almost hardly ever wear pastels.
2) I used to...

This morning it seemed like just about everyone was in the mood for some Funky Cold Medina...except Kitty. This ridiculous song made it all the way to number 3 in 1989. Jonathan says any song that references advertising dogs from the 80's has got...

It's a miracle that both Jonathan and KItty wanted to hear Barry Manilow this morning. They were not alone. Plenty of Fanilow's called in to vote yes. One caller claimed to have seen Manilow in concert 25 times!
The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, it is another gorgeous Monday, fit for another great show at the Crystal Corner tonight.
Through locking ourselves in the barn on Irish Lane, tossing some ideas around, as well as a few choice beverages to...
