[Concert Review] Delta Spirit, High Noon Saloon, Nov. 18th

Delta Spirit High Noon Saloon, Nov. 18th, more info at trueendeavors.com Delta Spirit shot me down at the High Noon Saloon.  I don't know what I was really expecting after hearing some of their music, but they exceeded my expectations live on almost every level.  And High Noon was crowded as well and everyone seemed to be enjoying the show. Delta Spirit has a raw soulful rock sound that is raw and potent.  Lead singer Matt Vasquez has a nice combination of soft and loud.  He isn't the most polished singer, but the whole band more than makes up for that with wild energy.  One of the my favorite songs of the night was "People, Come On" and here it is below: Participation: Delta Spirit was very engaging with the audience.  They had everyone clapping and even had a sing-a-long to their rendition of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here."  Any band that pays homage to Pink Floyd is a good band in my book, except if their name is Korn. They also played through their song "Trashcan" which features a trashcan lid and that was interesting. Encore: One of the last songs of the night was "People, Turn Around" and it is an incredibly emotional song and has a nice steady beat.  Lead singer Vasquez told everyone to be quiet and it was a moment of solidarity in the audience.  Then for the last song, Vasquez took the microphone and went into the middle of the audience and told everyone to get on a knee.  He then did his version of "Shout" by the Isley Brothers.  It was an amazing ending to a great night. Overall: Delta Spirit is a band that combines the wildness of rock and the serenity of soul.  They play an excellent show and I would highly recommend seeing them live because they're a lot of fun. -Soren Nieminen
