Built to Spill, Sept. 21 @ High Noon Saloon
They came. They rocked. They left. That is how I can sum up my experience with Built to Spill. Now, they are an interesting band and have been around for a LONG time (since 1992). Their lead singer, Doug Martsch, is an incredible vocalist and guitarist and it really shows that he has been doing this for a while and perfected everything along the way. They sound EXACTLY like their recorded studio efforts. It's incredible.
Built to Spill played through some songs off their new album Their Is No Enemy that was released last October. They also played some classics like "Untrustable/Part 2" from their 1997 album Perfect From Now On. Highlights of the Concert:
I like High Noon Saloon. It has a nice relaxed atmosphere...and they have bars on both sides of the room, which is nice
The band was incredible live. They are amazing musicians who can PLAY!
Lead singer Doug Martsch has such a nice voice.
Critique of the Concert:
Ok, it may seem nit-picky, but Martsch has no presence on stage. I think he spoke like 5 times during the whole show to the crowd. When he was finished with a song, he would just lean into the mic and offer a polite "Thanks," and then go to the next song. I know, it's not a huge deal, but I like it when people at least acknowledge a location. I think he's just a guy who likes to go out there and speak through his music, which is cool. I guess it's better than having someone tell a long incoherent story that doesn't go anywhere. (Que Miss South Carolina here).
BUT...OVERALL
Great concert. I would highly recommend going to the High Noon Saloon because they have bands there all the time. Click here for their upcoming schedule. And this band is incredibly good live
Or you can check out one of their awesome songs that they played at the show:

I'm not sure why Pete Yorn decided to name his new music project after a European cave dwelling aquatic salamander, but if he stops by to play us some songs in Studio M, we'll have to ask him.

Today's song was written by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary. It was inspired by the 1957 novel Doctor Zhivago. No one was inspired by the song this morning. It was rejected by almost all the listeners.
Today is World Goth Day, a day to celebrate the post-punk, anti-establishment, dark clothes-wearing subculture.
I'm pretty sure I was a Goth for at least for little while, for two reasons.
1) I almost hardly ever wear pastels.

This morning it seemed like just about everyone was in the mood for some Funky Cold Medina...except Kitty. This ridiculous song made it all the way to number 3 in 1989. Jonathan says any song that references advertising dogs from the 80's has got...

It's a miracle that both Jonathan and KItty wanted to hear Barry Manilow this morning. They were not alone. Plenty of Fanilow's called in to vote yes. One caller claimed to have seen Manilow in concert 25 times!
