[Concert Review] Blitzen Trapper, High Noon Saloon, Sept. 29th

So, with a name like Blitzen Trapper, this band has to be unique. They are. But they are also heavily influenced by 60's and 70's rock 'n roll. Blitzen Trapper has a classical rock backdrop to most of their songs that integrates very well with their folksy appeal and blend of Mr. Bob Dylan meets Sonic Youth. It's hard to describe how they sound, but they are all very talented.
The show was terrific. They went through some of their classic songs and some of the new stuff off their newest album "Destroyer of the Void" that was released in June. They wisely moved backwards to some of their greatest songs including Furr, Black River Killer, God & Suicide, and Lady on the Water off their 2008 album "Furr."

The show was lively and engaging and I love it when performers talk with the audience. And Blitzen Trapper loves loves LOVES Wisconsin beer and cheese. Hey, I'll take points for my state when I can get 'em. They said they'd been touring for a week in Canada and were glad to be home. I was glad they were too.
Highlights of the Show
Hearing them do a live version of Black River Killer. Check out the video here. It's an amazing video and song.
Just chilling with the cool crowd at High Noon Saloon. It's so damned relaxing. You know when you go to a concert and some jerk pushes you? Well that doesn't happen that much at High Noon, which is cool.
Watching all the band (6 people) PERFORM. They joked around, got the audience clapping and it was just a fun time.
Singer Eric Earley performed a new song "Taking it easy for too long" that was incredible.
Why should Blitzen Trapper be on the radar?
Their biggest fan is Rainn Wilson (who plays Dwight on The Office). He even offered to tour with them, but they declined and Rainn Wilson killed them. Or so is the makings of a video they are shooting that will come out shortly. Click here for more info.
They supply plenty of onstage banter. And they sound pretty damn good live.
Most surreal moment of the show:
During the last two songs of the show, drummer Brian Adrian Koch took out a tape recorder and passed it around the room for people to record messages to the band while they played. It was kind of a metaphysical experiment on the nature of reality...and kind of awesome.
