[Bonnaroo] En Roote to Bonnaroo!

Dear Fellow Music Enthusiasts, For those of you unable to attend the Bonnaroo Music Festival this year, I hope these blog posts allow you to live vicariously through a 22 year old college student on her long-awaited pilgrimage.  Hopefully I’ll inspire you to embark on your own musical odyssey.  For me, the countdown is nearly at zero.  We’re all packed up and ready to go and we’ll soon be en Roote to Bonnaroo! I couldn’t be more excited to head down to Tennessee.  I am an obsessive planner, so I’ve be reviewing the lineup and stage schedules for weeks.  However, my friend Gregor will be taking a more focused approach:  get Zooey Deschanel to dump Ben Gibbard so they can run away together.  We’ll see if that plan works out....  Perhaps Regina Spektor is available instead. Thanks to generous friends and family, we’ll arrive and camp at Bonnaroo in style.  I’m not an avid camper, but I think I’m ready for anything.  Now the trick is weighing who to see.  Decisions, decisions! My MUST see: Miike Snow, Stevie Wonder, Phoenix, Regina Spektor, Weezer, She & Him, Jay-Z, and Kings of Leon Artists new to me that are of serious interest: Disco Biscuits, Tokyo Police Club, Japandroids, The Temper Trap, and Les Claypool With pit stops at the Silent Disco and the Brooery, we’ll see if I have time to sleep! I’ll be posting throughout the festival and sending photos too, so be sure to check back!  Thank you to all who voted for me, thanks to you my dream is coming true!  Here we go!  Wish us luck! Abby Braatz

A Fine Monday Afternoon
The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, it is another gorgeous Monday, fit for another great show at the Crystal Corner tonight. Through locking ourselves in the barn on Irish Lane, tossing some ideas around, as well as a few choice beverages to...

Short Signature
Hey everybody, we were thrown for a loop by the twist this week, but were able to make one of our "oldie but a goldie" songs fit the mold. We have a few songs that we have played consistently over the years, and we are very happy that we will be...

Twist and Turn
We just received word of what this weeks twist is, and...oh boy. We need to take our "signature song" and cut it to only 2:30 without going over. Amberstein does not simply play 2:30 versions of our songs...so this could be interesting. Last...

World's Worst iPod: Somebody's Watching Me by Rockwell
In 1984, Rockwell rose to number 2 for 3 weeks in 1984 with "Somebody's Watching Me." The backup singer for the song was Michael Jackson. How did Rockwell get Jackson to help him? Well, Rockwell's real name is Kennedy William Gordy and he...

Free download: Jamie N. Commons
Have you heard the song "Rumble and Sway" yet on Triple M? The singer sounds like a raspy blues dude who's definitely been around the block a few times....but surprisingly, Jamie N. Commons is only 23 years old! He was born in England, but...

New food of the week: Kale
Last week, I decided I would try one new, healthy food a week, and asked my facebook friends to make some suggestions. The first thing I tried was mango. I'm sure I've had other mango flavored things, and mango as part of something else, but...

World's Worst iPod: You Don't Bring Me Flowers
There's only one thing that might be worse than the Neil Diamond/Barbra Streisand duet "You Don't Bring Me Flowers." And that's Jonathan Suttin doing his best crooning...doing both parts. Most unpleasant. A lot of people liked this song...
